Education for the hands, the mind, and the soul
MAD for Schools is the educational arm of Make A Difference Travel, creating experiential learning adventures for students of all ages- from elementary and high schools, up to the university level.
Whether working alongside social entrepreneurs, helping to plant a rainforest, or learning how a local community tackles plastic pollution, MAD Travel’s educational experiences connect students to real world challenges, encourage them to see the world with fresh eyes– from a local’s perspective, and use empathy alongside critical thinking to develop innovative & sustainable solutions.
With an extensive range of industry partners, we work both with, and for, a range of organisations across diverse industry sectors. This includes partnerships with government organisations, schools, universities, corporations and NGOs, as well as offering travel alternatives for individual travellers.
The Four Principles
Students are encouraged to leave any preconceptions at home and visit our partner communities with a beginner’s mindset. This allows students to have an open mind and space to connect to people & their surroundings, explore new ideas, and then reflect on their experiences and learnings at the end of the day.
We believe in the power of presence – learning by reflecting on doing. This holistic method allows students to apply theoretical knowledge in the real world, builds empathy by allowing for genuine connections, and opens possibilities to use critical-thinking skills.
Mutual Respect and Growth
Visiting a community encourages a fair exchange of ideas and collaboration between students and locals. This gives them equal opportunities to provide and gain valuable learning experiences, allowing both to grow.
Our programs aim to support and enhance the long-term goals of our partner communities. In partnering with schools and universities, we hope to first, bring awareness to the local communities’ challenges. We also hope to foster a sense of pride in what they have to offer in creating solutions for these issues.
We are in it for the long haul. This enduring presence has enabled us to build trust with our partner communities and to better understand their long term needs and goals. When there is a trusting and open avenue for communication, growth and learning are stimulated.
